  • Rheinhessen (in English often Rhine-Hesse or Rhenish Hesse) is the largest of 13 German wine regions (Weinanbaugebiete) for quality wines (QbA and Prädikatswein) with 26,444 hectares (65,340 acres) under cultivation in 2008.Named for the traditional region of Rhenish Hesse, it lies on the left bank of the River Rhine between Worms and Bingen in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Despite its historic name it is currently no longer part of the federal-state of Hesse, this being the case since the end of World War II. There have been several unsuccessful attempts to legally reunite the former wine growing districts of Mainz on the hessian side during the post-war area. Rheinhessen produces mostly white wine from a variety of grapes, particularly Müller-Thurgau (4.320 ha), Riesling (3.769 ha) and Silvaner (2.467 ha), and is best known as the home of Liebfraumilch, although some previously underrated Rieslings are also made, increasingly in a powerful dry style.

  • Weingut Dorwagen originated in 1782 when it was the first time pointing cams planted. Now we are eight generations later, and the vineyard is still maintained by the family. Still with the same zeal and love for the work, which you'll notice especially when you taste this wine.

    The family Dorwagen built in the fertile hills of Rheinhessen in and around the town Ober-Hilbersheim. They own 20 hectares of vines.

    A compost-rich clay and limestone marl soil the 17 different grape varieties thrive.

    The small company is located in the area of the St. Johanner Klostergarten and is optimally illuminated by the sun. The grapes ripen in the summer. Precise work and preparation ensures strong and delicious wine.

  • In Germany, the area under Pinot Noir cultivation has grown steadily in recent years to encompass almost 12,000 hectares. That makes Germany the third largest producer of Pinot Noir in the world. As with Riesling, Pinot Noir prefers cool climates so that it has a longer maturing period to combine flavours and acidity. The resulting harmonious balance is why German wine regions are so well-suited to Pinot Noir production. The variety was brought to Germany from Burgundy already in the 14th century. Ambitious German wine-growers have elevated German Pinot Noir to the ranks of the very best red wines thanks to yield reduction, longer mash periods and masterly nurture in the large wooden or small Barrique barrels. The overall impression of German Pinot Noir is of a charming, light, sweet fruitiness with hints of raspberry, strawberry and blackcurrant. The wines usually contain relatively low levels of tannins and pigments compared to other red wine varieties. They are notable for their fruity acidity and smooth, elegant structure. German Pinot Noir is ideally served with ham, roast beef, hearty terrines and pies. 12% of Germany's vineyard area is devoted to Spatburgunder, primarily in Baden, Pfalz or Rheinhessen; it accounts for over half the plantings in the Ahr.

  • A white grape that may be hued lavendar, pink or reddish in skin color, it produces very aromatic, somewhat spicy wines. Complex bouquets range from musky grape to pungent pepper. High in natural sugar, it flourishes in Germany where bouquets of lychees and flowers are prominent. It is also grown from South Africa to California, though California’s version exhibits this grape’s softer side, with milder characteristics.

  • The Pinot Blanc is an old, traditional white wine variety and well known in almost every nameable wine growing region on earth. Everywhere the Pinot Blanc is much renowned and developed in many variations ranging from dry fruitiness to the extreme sweetness of dessert wines made out of overripe botrytised grapes. Frequently it can also be found in a very strong style, oaked and bone-dry but with an exceptional full-bodied appearance which is much appreciated by wine enthusiasts from all over the world. Our semi dry Pinot Blanc Late Harvest wines are only slightly sweet and primarily impress with their full body and the intense bouquet instead of pure sugar content. Hence they are very mild, pleasurably to drink and they present themselves favourably on almost every occasion.

  • Pinot gris or Grauburgunder is a white wine grape variety of the species Vitis vinifera. Thought to be a mutant clone of the Pinot noir variety, it normally has a grayish-blue fruit, accounting for its name (gris meaning "gray" in French) but the grapes can have a brownish pink to black and even white appearance. The word pinot, which comes from the word meaning "pine cone" in French, could have been given to it because the grapes grow in small pine cone-shaped clusters. The wines produced from this grape also vary in color from a deep golden yellow to copper and even a light shade of pink, and it is one of the more popular grapes for orange wine. The clone of Pinot gris grown in Italy is known as Pinot grigio.

    Pinot gris is grown around the globe with the "spicy" full-bodied Alsatian and lighter-bodied, more acidic Italian styles being most widely recognized. The Alsatian style, often duplicated in New World wine regions such as Marlborough, Tasmania, South Australia, Washington, and Oregon, tend to have moderate to low acidity, higher alcohol levels and an almost "oily" texture that contributes to the full-bodied nature of the wine. The flavors can range from ripe tropical fruit notes of melon and mango to some botrytis-influenced flavors. In Italy, Pinot grigio grapes are often harvested early to retain the refreshing acidity and minimize some of the overt-fruitiness of the variety, creating a more neutral flavor profile. This style is often imitated in other Old World wine regions, such as Germany where the grape is known as Ruländer.

    The Weißburgunder is represented not only here, but also with our neighbors. In France the Pinot Blanc variety, Pinot Bianco in Italy, is also common in Austria, Switzerland or Slovenia. The German winemakers are discovering more and more the value of this elegant grape variety. Just 4,800 hectares or 4.7 percent of the German vineyard area are currently planted with the variety, which thrives wherever it is already too hot for the Riesling. For several decades, we have been observing a steady upward trend, doubling the vineyard area over the last decade. With more than 1,400 hectares, Baden is regarded as a high castle of the White Burgundian, as well as Rheinhessen and the Palatinate, each with more than 1,100 hectares. Worth mentioning is the White Burgundy also on Moselle (300 hectares) and Nahe (270 hectares).

    Elegant white Burgundy in the dry flavor, with fresh acidity and fine fruit are ideal menu wines. In addition to light summer wines, there are powerful bottlings to dry selection. The Weissburgunder has a discreet aroma, which is often reminiscent of green nuts, apple, pear, quince, apricot, citrus fruit or fresh pineapple. A moderate body and pleasantly refreshing acid characterize it as a versatile menu wine. It is therefore suitable for seafood, fish, veal and pork as well as poultry, or simply as well-cooled terraces. Extra-rich varieties and barrique wines are also suitable for lamb or delicate dishes of the juvenile.

  • Regent is a grape variety that it still has some difficulties. It was developed as a variety resistant against fungi diseases. That should not have worked so completely. Nevertheless, it produces relatively tasty wines (compared to other German red wine varieties or younger imports). The red wine is fruity at the same time a little marmeladig and soft at the same time but also very fine. The regent of Aldi has a light acid balance and a relatively long echo. The wine tasting team recommends these wine-loving people who like to drink cocktails or go to the theater. White clothes fit the red wine.
